The Challenges

Difficulties in Accessing Care

There are many barriers to accessing mental health care in India. These include stigma, embarrassment, concerns about privacy, lack of mental health literacy and awareness regarding symptoms and early warning signs and lack of teen-friendly interventions.
In addition, India is facing an acute shortage of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. According to some reports, there are only about 2 Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists per one crore children in India. Anxiety and depression are treatable, but most kids with a diagnosable anxiety disorder and depression are not getting the desperately needed treatment.

Adolescence is the Golden Period for Mental Health Care and Intervention

Mental health practitioners worldwide have recognised the golden period for any intervention is during adolescence. This is because earlier intervention in adolescents could prevent and reverse any mental health problems from taking hold and result in long-lasting positive life outcomes.
